Works

The primary dimension of Armanda Verdirame's latest work is cosmogonic-cosmological. An ancient dimension of sculpture, in the broadest sense of the term, from the Paleolithic Menhir to " The Endless Column" by Brancusi, who, with Armanda, I believe maintains substantial validity; even today ,in a world that bears the increasingly merciless mark of electronics, that inevitably seems to make all hand-made co-ordinates look anachronistic, so that we even find ourselves wondering whether it is still possible (here and now, rather than as an archaeologically intended tribute)to work at sculpture, using the same techniques and materials as always. Armanda Verdirame works in this ambitious direction, using clay as her favourite medium, shaping and then firing it with rituals and rhythms that are the same as ever and as such have a significance of their own; alternative, in the purposeful sense of the term, because it entails tracing and anthropological root system back to the original, fertilising acts and materials with the pregnancy of the primary symbol.

After artistic studies, he studied themes closely linked to Nature, arriving at sculpture after experience in painting, chalcography and silk-screen printing, exhibiting since 1976. Sculpture is explored through clay because it is considered dense with ecological-symbolic and anthropological values, values on which he has always wanted to meditate. The problem of the seed as a reference to life, and then to the value of food, has been at the basis of his poetics since 1985.
Exploring the concept of sedimentation through the form of the stalactite, she has created stratified books; since 2009 a permanent installation has been in the Archaeological Museum of Cosenza, called "archaeological site".
Armanda Verdirame is present in various other museums: Vatican City-Rome, in Brescia at the Museum of Art and Spirituality, in Cosenza, in Sora (Fr) as the winner of a competition for a Tabernacle, in S. Stefano Belbo, in Ancona, in Maccagno, in Santa Maria di Leuca, etc. also in San Francisco (CA), in Bonn. In Messina...on the road to Mistretta for Antonio Presti he contributed to a public installation.
He has exhibited in Italy and abroad: Belgium-Germany-Turkey-France-Russia, and is present in Moscow with Evelina Schatz and her poetry.
