Simone Benedetto

Works

Simone Benedetto exhibits in our gallery since 2024.

Simone Benedetto was born in 1985 in Turin. He graduated from the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Sculpture and Plastic Arts. One of the most versatile sculptors, he experiments with multiple materials, combining plastic techniques with a realistic and visionary language.

After graduating from the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Sculpture and Plastic Arts, experiences practiced abroad were fundamental to his artistic and personal training; in fact, the artist undertook and achieved important study courses in the academies of Valencia and Lisbon, continuing in the sculptural sphere both his personal exhibition activities and his work.

Simone Benedetto's works represent an imagery that, starting from the “already said” of contemporary art, constructs an individual and original hierarchical scheme of ideas. The archetypes are apparently simple: play, childhood, war and social upheaval.

Over everything, however, lies the mantle of the macro-topic of technology; that is, how the latter has altered previously established semiotics and interpersonal relationships, particularly from the birth of social networks onward.

Benedetto can be considered one of the most versatile and multifaceted contemporary sculptors: his experimentation with materials (semi-precious stones, bronze, concrete, resins and silicones), his combination of plastic techniques and his mixing of realistic and visionary language allow him to deal with thorny and complex social issues, showing the contradictory nature of everyday life with an intimate and original critical gaze.

Simone Benedetto's metamorphic and fairy-tale-like creatures seem to be taken from a fairy tale, hybrids belonging to another secret and unknown dimension. They could be inhabitants that populate undisturbed the dense bush vegetation or the protagonists of a dystopian near future, possible descendants of the human species, returned to the wild following some environmental catastrophe.
Playful and wild spirits, the Animal Souls seem to reinterpret the contemporary need for a return to Nature, in a renewed communion, and the celebration of that atavistic instinct and purity proper to Childhood, an age free from all the constraints and conditioning that society imposes.
A glimmer of hope inspires a reading rooted in collective myth and the perfect primal adherence between natural state, social condition and cultural formation. The estrangement from the original state of nature is an ancient topic, running through the history of thought and culture from time immemorial. Indeed, J.J. Rousseau, in “Discourse on the Origin and Foundations of Inequality among Men,” regards nature, conceived as the original state of savage man, as benign, and life as happy if in direct contact with it, while “our evils are for the most part our own doing, and we would have avoided almost all of them by maintaining the simple, uniform and solitary mode of life which was prescribed to us by nature.”
